2000 workers organize a huge warning rally

December 20, Delhi. The huge almond processing industry of Delhi, situated in the Karawal Nagar, continued to be paralysed on consecutive sixth day. As is well known, nearly 30 thousand almond workers' families went to strike with their families six days ago under the leadership of Badaam Mazdoor Union (BMU). In the meanwhile, on the morning of December 17, the contractors and their armed goons attacked a peaceful procession of women workers, injuring three BMU activists and several workers. In self-defense, workers started pelting stones on the goons due to which 4 of them were injured. However, the Karawal Nagar Police, completely playing in the hands of the employers, unilaterally lodged a case against the Union leaders under section 107 and section 151, and sent them to Tihar Jail. These BMU leaders were released on bail on the night of December 19. The shameless Karawal Nagar Police kept the injured, bleeding BMU activists in the Police Station, without providing them any kind of medical assistance, and doing so intentionally. On the other hand, the real culprits, the hooligans of the contractors were let go by the Police! Not even a single case was registered against them. Even more shameful is the fact that the Police lied to other BMU officials that they were taking the arrested leaders for M.L.C. and a case has been registered against the contractors and their henchmen. The contractors used casteist abuses against dalit workers and dalit BMU activists. And yet, the Police refused to register any case against the contractors and their gundas. The contractors and owners had calculated that with the arrest of the top BMU leaders, the strike will disintegrate. But, contrary to their great expectations, the arrest of BMU leaders, rather than shaking the courage and confidence of workers instilled in them an indomitable resolve to fight till the end. The 20 percent workers who had not joined the strike, joined it on the night of 19th December.

After the release of the leaders, workers warmly welcomed them and organized a historical rally on the morning of December 20 in the whole western Karawal Nagar. The rally had been organized as a symbolic warning to the contractors and the Police. Almost 2000 workers participated in the rally, predominantly female. The rally started in Prakash Vihar area of Karawal Nagar and covered the entire western Karawal nagar. During the rally, workers raised various slogans against the contractors, Police, capitalism, etc. The common citizens of Karawal Nagar saw this rally with awe and supported the demands of the workers. It was the biggest workers' rally in the history of Karawal Nagar. The workers demonstrated their militant unity with this rally and re-emphasized their resolve to continue the struggle till their demands are met.

Due to the continuation of the strike into the sixth day, the almond processing industry of Delhi has come to a halt. Thousands of unprocessed almond bags are lying dump in the godowns of the contractors. On the other hand, the demand for almonds is increasing with every passing day as Christmas and New Year is coming near. It is noteworthy that the almond that is processed in Delhi comes from the companies of the US, Australia and Canada and a number of European countries. These companies, in order to exploit the cheap labour of India and minimize their costs, send their almonds for processing to the big businessmen of Khari Bawli of Delhi, which is the largest dry fruit market of Asia. These big businessmen give this work of processing on sub-contracting to the petty contractors of Karawal Nagar, who laughing away all labour regulations and laws, exploit the workers cruelly. These are the very workers who have been on strike for the sixth consecutive day and who have been demanding for the fulfillment of all their rights given by the labour laws, for example, the piece rate should be fixed in accordance with the law of minimum wages, that is the per bag processing rate should be fixed according to the minimum wages; the workers should be given double overtime payment; they should be provided with identity card and job card; and the due payment should be made in the first week of the month; abuse of workers should be stopped immediately by the contractors. The almond workers formed their Badaam Mazdoor Union last year and since then they have successfully fought on a number of issues. Due to the present strike the rates of almond are increasing swiftly in Delhi's markets.

Convener of BMU, Ashish Kumar Singh said, "Till now, the Police administration has worked hands in gloves with the contractors to sabotage the strike. We have completely lost faith in the Karawal Nagar Police administration and to initiate action against the goons of the contractors, we will lodge a complaint directly in the office of DCP, North-East Delhi. And if the DCP office fails to take action, we will move to court. The goons of contractors will not be spared and they'll have to pay for every drop of blood of workers and their leaders. Strike is our weapon. We'll continue the strike till all our demands are met."

Struggle of Delhi's almond workers living under the yoke of global profit mongers

December 18, Delhi. Almost 30 thousand workers' families are working in the almond processing industry of Karawal Nagar area of North-East Delhi. This whole industry is a global industry. These workers toiling in the most primitive conditions process the almonds of overseas companies of the US, Australia and Canada. These companies come to India for the processing of their dry fruits in their quest of cost minimization as labour in India is far cheaper as compared to that in these countries. Khari Bawli of Delhi is the biggest wholesale dry fruits market of Asia. The big businessmen of Khari Bawli bring unprocessed almonds from these countries, get them processed and then send them back. These businessmen get the processing done by entrusting this work on contract basis to small-time contractors based in Karawal Nagar, Sant Nagar-Burari, Narela and Sonia Vihar. These contractors run small processing workshops in these areas. These workshops are working hell for workers and are not licenced by any government agency. These workshops are completely illegal. Each workshop has 20-40 workers, mostly women and often with their children. Working hour might vary from 12 hours in normal season to 16 hours in peak season. On processing one 23 Kg bag of almonds, they are paid Rs. 50. A skilled worker can break at most 2 bags of almonds in one day. Abusing, harassing and sexual exploitation of workers are common.
These workers are on strike for last three days under the leadership of their Union 'Badaam Mazdoor Union.' They are demanding that per bag rate should be increased from Rs. 50 to Rs. 80, they should be paid double for working overtime, they should be provided identity card and job card by the contractor, etc. Its noteworthy that all these demands are in accordance with the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Contract Labour Act (Prevention and Abolition) 1971, etc. On the second day of the strike, the contractors with their henchmen attacked a peaceful procession of women workers, who were with their children, led by a few Union workers. This attack wounded two Union workers seriously, while a number of women workers and their children sustained minor injuries. During this attack contractors and their goons used casteist remarks to humiliate dalit Union workers as well as women workers. Dalit workers were their particular targets. In defense, workers started pelting stones at the crowd of the contractors and their goons as a result of which 4 goondas of the contractors sustained injuries. In the meanwhile, the Police arrived at the scene and escorted the four injured goons to hospital and provided them with Medical assistance. On the other hand the injured Union members and labourers were arrested by the Police and taken the Police Station. They did not provide them with medical assistance. A few activists were bleeding seriously, but even that did not move the Police. They were kept there in the same conditions for 5 long hours and the Police intentionally delayed the whole process of recording statements. In the meanwhile, the injured workers and activists kept bleeding. After this whole inhuman behaviour, the Police took the activists from the Police Station and lied to the workers who had gheraoed the Police Station, that they were being taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and then they will be taken to the Karkardooma court. However, Police took them to the Gokalpuri Police Station which is away from Karawal Nagar so that the workers cannot reach there and did not tell anyone about it. F.I.R. had been lodged against the Union activists on the statement of the hooligans of the contractors; however, no F.I.R. was lodged against the contractors and their goons on the statements of the workers and Union activists. The arrested people from the side of the contractors were freed immediately. The arrested activists were produced in the Seelamput SDM court today, but due to some technical reasons they were granted bail and were sent to judicial custody by the Special Executive Magistrate Nirmal Kaur. In the meanwhile, strikers in Karawal Nagar vowed to continue their fight till the end and they pledged that they would not give up until their leaders are released and all their demands are met. The whole almond processing industry of Karawal Nagar has come to a standstill as the strike intensified even more after the deceitful arrest of the Union activists and shameful collusion of the Police administration with the godown owners and contractors. Till the evening of December 18, thousands and workers are gathered at the strike venue. Naveen of Badaam Mazdoor Union said that the arrest of the Union activists, rather than demoralizing the workers, has made their resolve to fight till the end even stronger. Now every worker considers it his or her first priority to take this struggle to final victory.
When Union activists and correspondants of 'Bigul' workers' monthly demanded an explanation from the Police administrated as to why no F.I.R. was lodged against the attacker contractors and their henchmen on the statements of the Union activists and workers and why the Police is working on the guidelines of the contractors by taking unilateral and unjustified action against the Union activists, then the senior officers of the Police bluntly said that the Union walahs need to be taught a lesson and the strikers will be disciplined with force. It is clear as daylight the the Police administration is working on the dictates of the contractors and employers. It has been trying to suppress the workers' movement with all its might and will. It is noteworthy too that all the small time local leaders of Congress, BJP and the RSS have come in open support to the contractors. Ironically, a number of employers and contractors themseves are local leaders of these electoral parties.
This is not the first time that the Police has worked on the behalf of the contractors. A year ago, in August 2008, when the workers had organized a strike for their legal rights, then the Police had arrested Ashish Kumar, the convener of Badaam Mazdoor Union, in an arbitrary fashion. However, at that time almost a thousand workers laid siege to the Police Station and freed Ashish. But this time, the Police acted more cleverly and lied to the workers that they had lodged a F.I.R. against the contractors and their goons and they were taking the three Union leaders for M.L.C. to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and then both the parties will be produced the the court. However, they were taken to a far away Police Station of Gokalpuri and were locked in the lock up there. Its crystal clear that the Police has acted conspiratorially to safeguard the interests of the contractors. Reportedly, lakhs of rupees were transacted in bribing the Police in the Police Station. One can understand that the Police must have charged their share for the bizarre inconvenient exercises that they had to do to acquit the culprits! The employers had hoped that the locking up of top Union leaders for one day will break the strength and endurance of the workers and the strike will be sabotaged. However, all their estimates and hopes went haywire as the strike emerged to be even stronger. Workers elected their new interim leadership democratically and the movement marched ahead. Presently, thousands of workers are on the roads of Karawal Nagar and the whole scene is of a working class carnival.
It is noteworthy that these workers have been demanding for their legal rights. These include the workers' rights to which they are entitled under the Minimum Wages Act, Contract Labour Act, Trade Union Act, etc. For this purpose, the Union activists have visited the Office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner of the zone a number of times, but every visit proved its own futility. The whole labour commissionary plays in the hands of the employers and contractors. They are not willing to enforce any labour law and there is a whole network of mutual loyalties and obligations is working to ensure that the workers are kept like slaves and instumentum vocale.
One particular thing to note about this movement is the massive participation of women workers, who constitute the majority of the total worker population in the almond processing industry. These workers are resolved to take this struggle to the ultimate limits.
We appeal to all democratic, sensitive and justice-loving media persons to investigate about this industry and know about the movement of the almond breakers of Karawal Nagar. This is a factsheet and we urge you to corroborate the facts given in it yourself. We believe that such struggles need to be brought in to the public domain urgently and common citizens of India should be made aware of the fact that how the whole executive, legislative and even the judiciary works in collusion with and on the directives of the moneyed class of this country and how common workers are denied justice on every possible single instance. We urge you to give this heroic struggle of workers some space in your newspaper, or magazine or news channel. Workers need you.

गोरखपुर में मज़दूरों की जुझारू एकजुटता और भारी जनदबाव के आगे ज़िला प्रशासन ने घुटने टेके

गिरफ़्तार मज़दूर नेताओं की रिहाई, मज़दूरों की मांगें 10 दिन में लागू कराने के लिखित समझौते के बाद आन्दोलन स्थगित

गोरखपुर में चल रहे मज़दूर आन्दोलन में मजूदरों और नागरिकों के भारी दबाव के आगे अंततः प्रशासन को झुकना पड़ा और कल रात (22 अक्टूबर) सभी माँगों को मानने के लिए लिखित समझौता करना पड़ा। इससे पहले 21 अक्टूबर की रात को प्रशासन ने चारों गिरफ़्तार मज़दूर नेताओं को बिना शर्त रिहा कर दिया था।

मज़दूर नेताओं की अवैध गिरफ्तारी और बर्बर पिटाई के विरोध में 20 अक्टूबर को बरगदवा औद्योगिक क्षेत्र के पांच कारखानों में हड़ताल हो गई थी और 1500 से अधिक मज़दूरों ने ज़िलाधिकारी कार्यालय पर धरना और क्रमिक भूख हड़ताल शुरू कर दी थी। कात्यायनी जी के नेतृत्व में गठित गोरखपुर मजदूर आंदोलन समर्थक नागरिक मोर्चा की ओर से गोरखपुर में नागरिक सत्याग्रह आंदोलन शुरू करने की घोषणा से ज़िला प्रशासन पर और भी दबाव बढ़ गया था। कलक्ट्रेट परिसर में बैठे मजदूरों को भारी संख्या में पुलिस, पीएसी व रैपिड ऐक्शन फोर्स ने घेर रखा था, लेकिन मजदूर बड़ी संख्या में डटे रहे। 21 अक्टूबर को जबर्दस्त प्रदर्शन, शहर के नागरिकों और विभिन्न संगठनों के दबाव और दिन भर चली वार्ता के बाद रात को प्रशासन ने चारों मज़दूर नेताओं को रिहा कर दिया। लेकिन सभी फर्जी मुकदमे हटाने, पिटाई के दोषी अफसरों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई और मजदूरों की मांगें पूरी कराने के लिखित आश्वासन की मांग पर भूख हड़ताल और धरना जारी रहा।

22 अक्टूबर को दो अन्य कारखानों के मजदूर भी काम बन्द करके जिलाधिकारी कार्यालय पर धरने में शामिल हो गए। इसके बाद शाम को प्रशासन ने फर्जी मुकदमे हटाने, दोषी अधिकारियों के विरुद्ध जांच की सिफारिश प्रदेश सरकार को भेजने और 10 दिनों के भीतर मजदूरों की सभी मांगें पूरी करने का लिखित आश्वासन दिया और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों ने मजदूरों के सामने इसकी घोषणा की। इसके बाद आन्दोलन को स्थगित करने का फैसला लिया गया।

आज के दौर में जब कदम-कदम पर मजदूरों को मालिकों और शासन-प्रशासन के गंठजोड़ के सामने हार का सामना करना पड़ रहा है, गोरखपुर के मजदूरों की यह जीत बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है। मजदूरों की एकजुटता और देश भर से मिले बुद्धिजीवियों, जनाधिकार कर्मियों और मजदूर संगठनों के व्यापक समर्थन के बिना यह मुमकिन नहीं था।

मज़दूर संगठनों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं,बुद्धिजीवियों से अपील

पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के गोरखपुर शहर में करीब ढाई महीने से चल रहे मज़दूर आन्दोलन को कुचलने के लिए प्रशासन ने फैक्ट्री मालिकों के इशारे पर एकदम नंगा आतंकराज कायम कर दिया है। गिरफ्तारियां, फर्जी मुकदमे, मीडिया के जरिए दुष्प्रचार व धमकियों के जरिए मालिक-प्रशासन-नेताशाही का गंठजोड़ किसी भी कीमत पर इस न्यायपूर्ण आंदोलन को कुचलने पर आमादा है। 15 अक्टूबर की रात संयुक्त मजदूर अधिकार संघर्ष मोर्चा के तीन नेतृत्वकारी कार्यकर्ताओं - प्रशांत, प्रमोद कुमार और तपीश मैंदोला को गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया। पुलिस उन पर शांति भंग जैसी मामूली धाराएं ही लगा पाई लेकिन फिर भी 16 अक्टूबर को सिटी मजिस्ट्रेट ने उन्हें ज़मानत देने से इंकार करके 22 अक्टूबर तक जेल भेज दिया। इससे पहले 15 अक्टूबर की रात ज़िला प्रशासन ने तीनों नेताओं को बातचीत के लिए एडीएम सिटी के कार्यालय में बुलाया जहां काफी देर तक उन्हें जबरन बैठाये रखा गया और उनके मोबाइल फोन बंद कर दिये गये। उन्हें आन्दोलन से अलग हो जाने के लिए धमकियां दी गईं। इसके बाद उन्हें कैंट थाने ले जाया गया जहां उनके साथ मारपीट की गई। इसके अगले दिन मालिकों की ओर से इन तीन नेताओं के अलावा 9 मजदूरों पर जबरन मिल बंद कराने, धमकियां देने जैसे आरोपों में एकदम झूठा मुकदमा दर्ज कर लिया गया। गिरफ्तारी वाले दिन से ही जिला प्र्रशासन के अफसर ऐसे बयान दे रहे हैं कि इन मजदूर नेताओं को ”माओवादी“ होने की आशंका में गिरफ्तार किया गया है और उनके पास से ”आपत्तिजनक“ साहित्य आदि बरामद किया गया है। उल्लेखनीय है कि गोरखपुर के सांसद की अगुवाई में स्थानीय उद्योगपतियों और प्रशासन की ओर से शुरू से ही आन्दोलन को बदनाम करने के लिए इन नेताओं पर ‘‘नक्सली’’ और ‘‘बाहरी’’ होने का आरोप लगाया जा रहा है। कुछ अफसरों ने स्थानीय पत्रकारों को बताया है कि पुलिस इन नेताओं को लंबे समय तक अंदर रखने के लिए मामला तैयार कर रही है।
इससे पहले 15 अक्टूबर को जिलाधिकारी कार्यालय में अनशन और धरने पर बैठे मजदूरों पर हमला बोलकर उन्हें वहां से हटा दिया गया। महिला मजदूरों को घसीट-घसीटकर वहां से हटाया गया। प्रशांत, प्रमोद एवं तपीश को ले जाने का विरोध कर रही महिलाओं के साथ मारपीट की गई। ये मजदूर स्वयं प्रशासन द्वारा पिछले 24 सितम्बर को कराये गये समझौते को लागू कराने की मांग पिछले कई दिनों से प्रशासन से कर रहे थे। 3 अगस्त से जारी आन्दोलन के पक्ष में जबर्दस्त जनदबाव के चलते प्रशासन ने समझौता कराया था लेकिन मिलमालिकों ने उसे लागू ही नहीं किया। समझौते के बाद दो सप्ताह से अधिक समय बीत जाने के बावजूद आधे से अधिक मजदूरों को काम पर नहीं लिया गया है। थक हारकर 14 अक्टूबर से जब वे डीएम कार्यालय पर अनशन पर बैठे तो प्रशासन पूरी ताकत से उन पर टूट पड़ा। मॉडर्न लेमिनेटर्स लि. और मॉडर्न पैकेजिंग लि. के इन मजदूरों की मांगें बेहद मामूली हैं। वे न्यूनतम मजदूरी, जॉब कार्ड, ईएसआई कार्ड देने जैसे बेहद बुनियादी हक मांग रहे हैं, श्रम कानूनों के महज़ कुछ हिस्सों को लागू करने की मांग कर रहे हैं। बिना किसी सुविधा के 12-12 घंटे, बेहद कम मजदूरी पर, अत्यंत असुरक्षित और असहनीय परिस्थितियों में ये मजदूर आधुनिक गुलामों की तरह से काम करते रहे हैं। गोरखपुर के सभी कारखानों में ऐसे ही हालात हैं। किसी कारखाने में यूनियन नहीं है, संगठित होने की किसी भी कोशिश को फौरन कुचल दिया जाता है। पहली बार करीब पांच महीने पहले तीन कारखानों के मजूदरों ने संयुक्त मजदूर अधिकार संघर्ष मोर्चा बनाकर न्यूनतम मजदूरी देने और काम के घंटे कम करने की लड़ाई लड़ी और आंशिक कामयाबी पायी। इससे बरसों से नारकीय हालात में खट रहे हजारों अन्य मजदूरों को भी हौसला मिला। इसीलिए यह मजदूर आन्दोलन इन दो कारखानों के ही नहीं बल्कि पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश के तमाम उद्योगपतियों को बुरी तरह खटक रहा है और वे हर कीमत पर इसे कुचलकर मजदूरों को ”सबक सिखा देना“ चाहते हैं। कारखाना मालिक पवन बथवाल दबंग कांगे्रसी नेता है और भाजपा सांसद योगी आदित्यनाथ का उसे खुला समर्थन प्राप्त है। प्रशासन और श्रम विभाग के अफसर बिके हुए हैं। शहर में आम चर्चा है कि मालिकों ने अफसरों को खरीदने के लिए दोनों हाथों से पैसा लुटाया है। मजदूरों ने पिछले दो महीनों के दौरान गोरखपुर से लेकर लखनऊ तक, हर स्तर पर बार-बार अपनी बात पहुंचायी है लेकिन ”सर्वजन हिताय“ की बात करने वाली सरकार कान में तेल डालकर सो रही है। मजदूरों और नेतृत्व के लोगों को डराने-धमकाने, फोड़ने की हर कोशिश नाकाम हो जाने के बाद पिछले महीने से यह सुनियोजित मुहिम छेड़ दी गई कि इस आन्दोलन को ‘‘माओवादी आंतकवादी’’ और ‘‘बाहरी तत्व’’ चला रहे हैं और यह ”पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश को अस्थिर करने की साज़िश“ है। इससे बड़ा झूठ कोई नहीं हो सकता।

सामाजिक बदलाव के आन्‍दोलन से जुड़े कर्मठ योद्धा श्री अरविन्‍द को क्रान्तिकारी सलाम

'दायित्वबोध' पत्रिका के सम्पादक और क्रान्तिकारी कार्यकर्ता अरविन्द सिंह की गुज़री रात गोरखपुर में मृत्यु हो गई। वह पिछले सात दिनों से बीमार चल रहे थे। बुधवार की शाम उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया, जहां अचानक उनकी स्थिति बिगड़ गई। बृहस्पतिवार की रात 9:40 पर उन्होंने अन्तिम सांस ली। वे 43 बरस के थे।

विद्यार्थी जीवन से ही अरविन्द सामाजिक बदलाव के आन्दोलन से जुड़े रहे थे। छात्रों की पत्रिका 'आह्नान' के शुरू होने के वक्त वह उसके सम्पादक मंडल में भी थे। उन्होंने अनेक वर्षों तक गोरखपुर, वाराणसी, लखनऊ और दिल्ली में छात्रों, युवाओं और मज़दूरों के बीच काम किया था। मज़दूर अख़बार 'बिगुल' के सम्पादन-प्रकाशन के साथ ही वह गोरखपुर में सघन आन्दोलनात्मक और सांगठनिक गतिविधियों में व्यस्त थे। एक कुशाग्र लेखक और वक्ता होने के साथ ही अरविन्द एक क्षमतावान अनुवादक भी थे। उन्होंने बड़ी संख्या में सैद्धान्तिक सामग्री के अनुवाद के अलावा देनी दिदेरो की प्रसिध्द उपन्यासिका 'रामो का भतीजा' का भी अनुवाद किया।

अरविन्द अपने पीछे पत्नी मीनाक्षी, जो कि स्वयं एक क्रान्तिकारी कार्यकर्ता हैं, और दोस्तों-मित्रों और हमराहों की एक बड़ी संख्या छोड़ गए हैं।

यह सन्नाटा जब बीत चुका रहेगा यारो
यह ख़ामोशी जब टूट चुकी रहेगी
मुमकिन है कि हम मिलें
तो थोड़े से बचे हुए लोगों के रूप में
कहीं शाल-सागौन के घने सायों में
गुलमोहर-अमलतास-कचनार की बातें करते हुए
हृदय पर एक युद्ध की गहरी छाप लिये
और सबको दिखायी पड़ने वाला एक दूसरा
समूचा का समूचा युद्ध सामने हो।
सन्नाटे के ख़िलाफ
यह युद्ध है ही ऐसा
कि इसमें खेत रहे लोगों को
श्रद्धां‍जलि नहीं दी जाती,
बस कभी झटके से
वे याद आ जाते हैं

दिल्‍ली में शोषण के खिलाफ एकजुट हुए बादाम मजदूर, असंगठित थे, अब यूनियन बनाई

पूर्वी दिल्ली के करावल नगर क्षेत्र में बादाम तोड़ने के उद्योग में लगे मज़दूरों ने ठेकेदारों और गोदाम मालिकों के बर्बर शोषण तथा दमन-उत्पीड़न के विरुध्द संघर्ष के लिए कल रात यहां ''बादाम मज़दूर यूनियन'' का गठन किया तथा नवगठित यूनियन के बैनर तले एक विशाल जुलूस निकाला।

ज्ञात है कि करावल नगर इलाके में अमेरिका और आस्ट्रेलिया से आयातित बादाम को तोड़ने के काम में लगभग 10 हजार मज़दूर परिवार लगे हुए हैं और वहाँ कोई भी श्रम कानून लागू नहीं होने के चलते बादाम मजदूर भयंकर शोषण व उत्पीड़न के शिकार हो रहे हैं। श्रम-कानून लागू करने तथा न्यूनतम मजदूरी सहित अन्य माँगों को लेकर नौजवान भारत सभा और बिगुल मज़दूर दस्ता की अगुवाई में पिछले एक माह से बादाम मजदूर अपनी यूनियन बनाने के लिए प्रयासरत थे। इस सिलसिले में मज़दूरों की अनेक बैठकें की गई थीं और पिछले माह 7 जून को मज़दूरों की एक आम सभा में सर्वसम्मति से बादाम मज़दूरों ने अपनी यूनियन बनाने का फैसला किया था। इसके बाद बादाम मज़दूरों का एक प्रतिनिधि मंडल 8 जुलाई को विश्वकर्मा नगर स्थित श्रम विभाग कार्यालय में अपनी माँगों का ज्ञापन लेकर गया था जहाँ श्रम उपायुक्त लल्लन सिंह ने किसी कार्यवाही के लिए 1 माह का समय माँगा था।

बादाम मज़दूर यूनियन के गठन के प्रयासों तथा मीडिया में मजदूरों के हालात उजागर होने से बौखलाए गोदाम मालिकों व ठेकेदारों ने गत 12 जुलाई को करावलनगर पुलिस थाने के सामने नौजवान भारत सभा और बिगुल मज़दूर दस्ता के कार्यकर्ताओं पर अपने गुण्डों से हमला भी करवाया था और सरेआम धमकियां दी थीं कि जो कोई भी यूनियन बनाने की कोशिश करेगा उसे जान से मार देंगे। लेकिन इन कायराना हरकतों से मज़दूरों का रोष और बढ़ा तथा यूनियन बनाने के प्रयास तेज हो गये। गत 16 जुलाई की शाम को प्रकाश विहार, करावल नगर में हुई बादाम मज़दूरों की विशाल सभा में ''बादाम मज़दूर यूनियन'' का गठन किया गया, जिसमें आम सहमति से 8 लोगों की संयोजन समिति का चुनाव किया गया। यूनियन की संयोजन समिति में दयानंद, सीतापति, सुमित्रा देवी, सुशीला देवी, रूदल, आशु, अभिनव व आशीष को सर्वसम्मति से चुना गया। इनमें से 5 सदस्य बादाम मजदूर हैं तथा अन्य नौजवान भारत सभा तथा बिगुल मजदूर दस्ता के कार्यकर्ता हैं जो काफी समय से बादाम मजदूरों को संगठित करने में लगे हुए हैं।

सभा में यूनियन के गठन की घोषणा का मजदूरों ने भरपूर उत्साह के साथ स्वागत किया। इसके बाद ''बादाम मजदूर यूनियन'' के बैनर तले हजारों की संख्या में मजदूरों का एक विशाल जुलूस निकाला गया। मजदूरों के उत्साहपूर्ण नारों के साथ जुलूस ने पूरे प्रकाश विहार तथा करावल नगर इलाके का चक्कर लगाया।

बिगुल मज़दूर दस्ता से जुड़े आशु ने कहा कि मज़दूरों को काम से निकालने, धमकाने व मार-पीट के बावजूद जिस साहस के साथ बादाम मज़दूरों ने अपनी यूनियन खड़ी की है वह इस संघर्ष की पहली जीत है और आगे भी यूनियन अपनी माँगें पूरी कराये बिना पीछे नहीं हटेगी। संयोजन समिति के सदस्य अभिनव ने कहा कि यूनियन का पंजीकरण भी जल्द ही करा लिया जायेगा जिसकी प्रक्रिया तत्काल शुरू कर दी गई है। यूनियन ने मजदूरों की मांगों को लेकर गतिविधियां आरंभ कर दी हैं। नौजवान भारत सभा के आशीष ने कहा कि ''बादाम मज़दूर यूनियन'' अपनी माँगों के लिए संघर्ष में कानूनी और आन्दोलनात्मक दोनों तरीकों से मालिकों को झुका कर रहेगा।

कहां गये वे बच्‍चे

नोयडा और गाजि़याबाद से बच्‍चों के गायब होने की बढ़ती घटनाएं निठारी कांड जैसी किसी बड़ी आपराधिक गतिविधि की आशंका को बल दे रही है. पिछले 2 माह में केवल गाजि़याबाद के शहरी क्षेत्र से पुलिस के अनुसार 36 बच्‍चे लापता हैं जबकि सामाजिक संगठनों द्वारा की गयी जांच से पता चला है कि वास्‍तविक संख्‍या इससे कहीं अधिक है. ये सभी बच्‍चे गरीब तबके के हैं जिसके कारण पुलिस-प्रशासन ने इस मुद्दे पर अब तक बिल्‍कुल ध्‍यान नहीं दिया है.

नौजवान भारत सभा और बिगुल मज़दूर दस्‍ता की सयुंक्‍त जांच टीम द्वारा गाजि़याबाद और नोयडा की कुछ बस्तियों में 12 से 18 मई तक केवल एक सप्‍ताह के दौरान किए गये सर्वेक्षण में करीब 45 गुमशुदा बच्‍चों के बारे में पता चला. इनमें एक तिहाई संख्‍या लड़कियों की है. इनमें से अधिकांश बच्‍चे हाल ही में गुम हुए हैं.

इन संगठनों ने दिल्‍ली में एक प्रेस कान्‍फ्रेन्‍स में जांच रिपोर्ट 'कहां गये वे बच्‍चे' जारी करते हुए यह जानकारी दी.

नौजवान भारत सभा के तपीश मेन्‍दोला ने बताया कि नौजवान भारत सभा और बिगुल मज़दूर दस्‍ता ने एक महीना पहले गाजि़याबाद जिला प्रशासन को ज्ञापन देकर इस मामले में कार्रवाई करने का आग्रह किया था. इस पर भी कुछ न होते देख दोनों संगठनों ने साझा टीम गठित कर खुद ही इन मामलों की जांच करने का फैसला किया.

एक सप्‍ताह की अवधि में किए गये जांच पड़ताल के दौरान जांच टीम को गाजि़याबाद के नन्‍दग्राम, हर्ष विहार, विजयनगर, प्रताप विहार, संजय नगर, रईसपुर, मिर्जापुर, राहुल विहार, खोड़ा, टिगरी, खड्डा, अर्थला, विकलांग कालोनी, घुकना, दीनदयालपुरी, सलारपुर, करहेड़ा, श्‍यामपार्क एक्‍सटेंशन, बुद्धविहार, नवादा, प्‍यारे लाल कालोनी आदि और नोयडा के भंगेल, विशनपुरा, ममूरा, चोटपुर, छिजारसी के इलाकों में की गयी पू्छताछ के दौरान करीब 45 गुमशुदा बच्‍चों के बारे में पता चला. इनमें से कुछ बच्‍चे तो काफी समय से लापता है.

सूचना का अधिकार कानून के तहत गाजि़याबाद पुलिस द्वारा उपलब्‍ध कराई गई जानकारी के अनुसार इस वर्ष मार्च और अप्रैल माह में गाजि़याबाद के शहरी इलाकों से 36 बच्‍चे गुम हुए हैं जबकि मई माह में बड़ी संख्‍या में बच्‍चों के गायब होने की घटनाएं अखबारों में आ चुकी है. जांच के दौरान यह भी पता चला कि अनेक गरीब मां बाप डर के कारण पुलिस के पास ही नहीं जाते या फिर उनकी रिपोर्ट ही नहीं दर्ज की जाती हैं. जांच टीम को ऐसे कई मां बाप मिले जिन्‍हें पुलिस थानों से अपमानित करके और डरा धमका कर भगा दिया जाता था. किसी तरह अगर उनकी रिपोर्ट लिख भी ली गयी तो उस पर कोई कार्रवाई करने के बजाय पुलिसवाले या तो उनसे पैसे वसूलने की फिराक में रहते थे या उन्‍हें यूं ही दौड़ाते रहते थे.

रिपोर्ट के अनुसार हाल के वर्षो में भारत मावअंगों के विश्‍वव्‍यापी व्‍यापार, चाइल्‍ड पोर्नोग्राफी और बाल वेश्‍यावृत्ति जैसे धन्‍धों का एक बड़ा निशाना बन गया है. निठारी जैसी घटनाओं के सामने आने के बावजूद पुलिस व प्रशासन में इस मामले के प्रति घोर लापरवाही और असंवेदनशीलता का रवैया बरकरार है. उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय के दिशानिर्देशों का एक भी मामले में पालन नहीं किया गया है. निठारी कांड के बाद राष्‍ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग द्वारा गठित जांच समिति की संस्‍तुतियों पर भी कोई ध्‍यान नहीं दिया गया है.

A dyeing unit of the 'Abhiverma Textiles' factory in the Basti Jodhewal police station area in Ludhiana was destroyed by the explosion in its boiler on Monday (21 April) night. The blast was so powerful that the entire unit was destroyed and even some adjacent factories suffered damage. The Ludhiana based reporter of workers' paper 'Bigul' and social activist Rajvinder reached at the spot on Tuesday morning as the news spread about workers being injured in the blast. He was accompanied by some workers of the adjacent Mahaveer Basti. Some anti-social elements hired by the factory owner attacked and beat him up when he was gathering information about the blast.At least half a dozen workers have been injured in the blast but the workers feared that some dead bodies may be buried in the debris and they might be removed with the connivance of the police. Therefore the workers were not ready to leave the factory gates and they clashed with the police. Rajvinder and some other social workers were also present there. Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening, the police lathi-charged and forced the workers away from the factory and then arrested Rajvinder. He has been booked under the sections for attempt to murder and damaging public property along with 50 unnamed persons.The police are openly with the factory owner. Even after such a terrible blast he has not been arrested and only a case of negligence has been filed against him. The police raided several homes in the Mahaveer Basti on Tuesday night and beat up the workers including women and children. Police are camping outside the basti and terrorising the workers.We fear that the police may torture Rajvinder and implicate him in some other serious case. Yesterday night he was severely beaten by the police and the henchmen of the factory owner inside the Basti Jodhewal police station.We appeal to you to mount pressure on the police and administrative officers in Ludhiana to immediately release Rajvinder and withdraw the false cases against him. You can also send fax and email messages to the Home Secretary of Punjab.

क्‍या है यह..... एक क्षणिक आवेग

कुछ दिनों पहले अखबार पर सरसरी नजर डालते हुए एक खबर पर नजर अटक गयी. 'फेल होने के डर से एक चौदह साल की बच्‍ची द्वारा आत्‍महत्‍या'. र्शीषक ने मुझे पूरी खबर पढ़ने को मजबूर कर दिया और जैसे जैसे मैं खबर पढ़ती गयी मेरा चेहरा सफेद होता गया. एक मासूम सा चेहरा चुलबुली मुस्‍कुराहट लिये मेरी आंखों के सामने कौंध गया. वह बच्‍ची मेरे भतीजे की दोस्‍त हुआ करती थी. पिछले पांच साल के परिचय में उसको जितना जाना पहचाना था, उससे यह विश्‍वास करना कठिन था कि वह ऐसा कुछ कर सकती है. पुरानी जानपहचान थी, इसलिए सबसे पहले उसके मां बाप की ओर ही मेरा ध्‍यान गया. कैसे सहा होगा ? शायद उनके नजरों की ओर भी ताकने की हिम्‍मत नहीं बची थी मेरी पर फिर भी मै मिली उनसे और खुद के आंसुओं को रोक नहीं पायी. कितनी अजीब बात थी कि मैं खुद को संभाल नहीं पा रही थी और उस बच्‍ची के माता पिता मुझे ढांढस बंधा रहे थे. थोड़ी देर बाद सामान्‍य हुई तो मुझे लगा कि एक किशोर बच्‍ची के मां बाप को अपनी संवेदनाओं को छुपा कर कैसे दुनियादारी निभानी पड़ती है.
उसकी मां के आंसू शायद लोगों को यह समझाते समझाते ही सूख चुके थे कि उनकी बेटी के ऊपर कोई तनाव या दबाव नहीं था. हर नये सवाल पर उनकी नजरे चौंक जाती थी कि पता नहीं लोग क्‍या कहानियां गढ़े और उन्‍हे क्‍या जवाब देना पड़े. मैं अ‍चम्भित थी कि लोग जो चला गया उसके बारे में नहीं सोच रहे थे उनकी जिज्ञासा बस इसमे थी कि क्‍या हुआ होगा. चूंकि जाने वाला एक किशोर था तो कई और सवाल भी लोगों के नजरों में तैर रहे थे. मेरा मन अजीब सा कैसेला हो उठा अचानक दुख की जगह एक गुस्‍से ने ले ली पर यह गुस्‍सा लोगों पर नहीं था बल्कि उस जाने वाले के ऊपर था. क्‍या एक बार भी उसने यह नहीं सोचा कि उसकी इस हरकत से उसके मां बाप या परिवार पर क्‍या असर पड़ेगा. शायद उसे यह अंदाजा भी नहीं होगा कि उसकी मां उसके जाने का दर्द सीने में दबाये लोगों की जिज्ञासाओं को शांत करने के लिए मजबूर होगी और जिस समय उसकी बचपन की यादे, उसकी शरारते मां के जेहन में होनी चाहिए, वो बेचारी उन सवालों का जवाब ढूंढ रही होगी जो लोगों की नजरों में दिख रहे थे. क्‍यों किया उसने ऐसा. एक चौदह साल की बच्‍ची में इतनी हिम्‍मत कैसे आ गयी. ऐसी क्‍या बात हो गयी कि वो अपनी उलझनें अपने माता पिता से भी नहीं बांट सकी. इतना बड़ा फैसला लेना क्‍या उसकी हिम्‍मत का सबूत था या उसकी कमजोरी........... या सिर्फ एक क्षणिक आवेग जो शायद गुजर जाता तो उसके कदम भी रूक जाते.

कच्ची उम्र की यादें

हर किसी के जीवन का सबसे सुनहरा वक्त शायद 15 से 18 वर्ष के बीच का समय होता है। बचपन और युवावस्था के बीच डोलता मन ना जाने कितने सपने देखता है, कितना कुछ महसूस करता है। हर कोई कवि होता है अपनी दुनिया में । और कागजो में उतारता है अपने मन की बातें, दर्द, खुशिया सब कुछ। आज व्यस्क होने पर शायद वह सब शब्द और भावनाए बचकाने लगे पर उनमे छिपी उम्र के उस मस्त दौर की खुशबू आपको अभी भी मुस्कुराने को विवश कर देती हैं। ऐसी ही अपने उस बीते वक्त के कुछ लम्हों को मैंने एक पुरानी डायरी में पाया। 17-18 वर्ष पहले लिखे कुछ खट्टी मीठी बचकानी लाइनों ने मुझे भी उस दौर की याद दिला दी।

जिन्‍दगी का द्वन्‍द - शशिप्रकाश

शशिप्रकाश जी हिन्‍दी के एक जाने माने क्रान्तिकारी कवि हैं. हाल ही में उनकी कुछ कविताओं को पढ़ते हुए उनको जाना. और उनकी एक कविता में जैसे खुद को छुपे पाया

"एक अमूर्त चित्र मुझे आकृष्‍ट कर रहा है.
एक अस्‍पष्‍ट दिशा मुझे खींच रही है.
एक निश्चित भविष्‍य समकालीन अनिश्‍चय को जन्‍म दे रहा है.
(या समकालीन अनिश्‍चय एक निश्चित भविष्‍य में ढल रहा है?)
एक अनिश्‍चय मुझे निर्णायक बना रहा है.
एक अगम्‍भीर हंसी मुझे रूला रही है.

निराला - वो तोड़ती पत्‍थर

निराला की यह कविता बचपन में पढ़ी थी. तब शायद गरीबी शोषण जैसे शब्‍दों का अर्थ नहीं पता था पर फिर भी इस कविता को पढ़ने के बाद उस समय भी दिल में एक बैचेनी उठी थी एक चेहरा तांबाई रंग का जेहन में उतर गया था जो आज भी मौजूद है और मुझे रोज अपने आस पास कहीं ना कहीं दिख ही जाता है. और आज भी एक आवाज गूंजती है कानो में ठक ठक ठक और मुझे याद आती है निराला की यह कविता वो तोड़ती पत्‍थर. एक मित्र की मदद से आज ये कविता आप लोगों तक पहॅंुचा रही हूँ -

वह तोड़ती पत्थर.
देखा उसे मैंने इलाहाबाद के पथ पर
वह तोड़ती पत्थर.

कोई न छायादार
पेड़ वह जिसके तले बैठी हुई स्वीकार,
श्याम तन, भर बंधा यौवन,
नत नयन, प्रिय-कर्म-रात मन,
गुरु हथौड़ा हाथ,
करती बार-बार प्रहार :-
सामने तरु मालिका अट्टालिका, प्राकर.

चढ़ रही धूप;
गर्मियों के दिन
दिवा का तमतमाता रूप;
उठी झुलसाती हुई लू,
रुई ज्यों जलती हुई भू,
गर्द चिनगीं छा गयीं,
प्राय: हुई दुपहर :-
वह तोड़ती पत्थर.

देखते देखा मुझे तो एक बार
उस भवन की ओर देखा, छिन्न्तार;
देखकर कोई नहीं,
देखा मुझे उस दृष्टि से
जो मार खा रोई नहीं,
सुना सहज सितार,
सुनी मैंने वह नहीं जो थी झंकार
एक क्षण के बाद वह काँपी सुघर,
ढुलक माथे से गिरे सीकर,
लीन होते कर्म में फिर ज्यों कहा-

निराला हमेशा से मेरे प्रिय कवि रहे है. उनकी कविता पहली बार मैने कक्षा दस में पढ़ी थी नाम था वो तोड़ती पत्‍थर. हालाकि मैने ब्रेष्‍ट को बहुत ज्‍यादा नहीं पढ़ा पर एक दोस्‍त से मिली मंगलेश डबराल द्वारा लिखी यह कविता मन को छू गयी इसलिए इसे पोस्‍ट कर रही हूं

सपने में देखा कोई घर
था घर क्या टूटाफूटा-सा कमरा एक
कुर्सियाँ रखी हुई थीं बहुत पुरानी
बैठे थे उन पर बेर्टोल्ट ब्रेष्ट और निराला
वैसे ही जैसे अपनी-अपनी तस्वीरों में दिखते थे
निराला अस्तव्यस्त बालों में गहरी ऑंखें कहीं दूर देखतीं
ब्रेष्ट उसी गोल चश्मे में दो दिन की बढ़ी हुई दाढ़ी
और आँखें जैसे काफी दुनिया देख चुकी हों
सुना रहे थे कविता एक-दुसरे को
अभी कुछ और सुनाओ कहते
दोनों बीच-बीच में दुनिया के रंगढंग पर अचरज करते
कहा ब्रेष्ट ने मैं एक अँधेरे युग में रहता हूँ
निराला बोले मैं इसी अँधेरे का ताला खोलने को कहता हूँ
फिर कहा निराला ने चारों ओर घना है दुःख का जंगल
बोले ब्रेष्ट मैं रहा खोजता इस दुःख का कारण
निराला बोले मैं लड़ा कुलीनों से ब्राहमण के घर के व्यंजन छोड़े
जो असली जान हैं समाज के महंगू और झींगुर जैसे
या इलाहाबाद के पथ की वह मजदूरिन
उन पर जब लिखा मैंने
आलोचक बरसे मुझ पर कईयों ने कहा मुझे पागल
मरा हूँ हजार मरण
कहा ब्रेष्ट ने पूंजी और ताकत की निर्मम चालों पर
मैंने भी कलम चलायी उनके व्यवहारों को बारीकी से देखा
समाज की तलछट में रहनेवाले मुझे भी भले लगे
साधारण की हिम्मत और अच्छाई को दर्ज किया
अत्याचारी से बचने की तरकीबें खोजीं कई देश बदले
किसी तरह बच गया मृत्यु और यातना शिविरों से
जगह-जगह खोजता रहा शरण
कहा निराला ने जनता की ही तरह कविता की मुक्ति ज़रूरी है
बोले ब्रेष्ट जनता की मुक्ति में कविता बची हुई है
दो महाकवि गले मिले बोले फिर मिलते हैं
सपने में जाते दिखते दोनों ऐसे
जैसे जीवन में साथ रहा हो बरसों से

Frustration of Communal Elements

Some communal elements attached to Sangh pariwar caused disturbances in the literary exhibition organized by Janchetna, one of the leading distributor of progressive literature on occasion of birth centenary year of Shahid Bhagat Singh in Mathura and burned copies of labour newspaper Bigul.

Strongly condemning the incident, Janchetna & Rahul foundation demanded stern action against those communal elements.

Yesterday afternoon in the ongoing book exhibition organized by Janchetna at the gate of BSA Degree College, some people came there claiming themselves to be related to Sangh Pariwar and started creating disturbance over the news of Gujarat elections published in the December edition of Bigul paper. They were threatening that those who are propagating against Hindutva will be dealt with more badly than Muslims in Gujarat and Christians in Orissa. In spite of intervention made by a teacher & students of the college, they continued their vandalism and burned all the copies of Bigul.

They tried to destroy the books viz. Why I am an Atheist & Jati Dharma ke Jhagade Chodo aur Sahi Ladai se nata Jodo written by Bhagat Singh and other books of S/Shri Radha Mohan Gokul & Rahul Sankrityayan in the exhibition. They tried to damage the exhibition vehicle and threatened to burn it.

After the meeting of representatives of local residents with Sr. Police Officer of Mathura today, SSP lodged a FIR and ordered further action in the matter.

In the meantime, a memorandum has been sent to Ms. Mayawati, Chief Minister of UP & Union home Minister stating that “it is clearly understood by the attitude of communal elements targeting and creating disturbances at the mobile book exhibitions of Janchetna every where, that all these are going on under well planned conspiracy.”

On the occasion of Bhagat Singh birth centenary year, Janchetna is organizing mobile book exhibitions of progressive and revolutionary literature in the whole hindi belt. People attached to Bajrang Dal, VHP & Sangh Parwar has been continuously threatening and trying to create disturbance in these mobile exhibitions.

In Meerut on 11 October 2007, Bajrang Dal activists created disturbances over the books of Bhagat Singh, Radha Mohan Gokul, Rahul Sankrityayan published by Rahul Foundation and other anti communal books & papers and even lodged false complaints in police. Activists of Sangh Pariwar have been continuously threatening and causing disturbances in Janchetna exhibitions organized in Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Moradabad in UP and Jaipur also. Last November, some people threatened to send Bajrang Dal activists at the book exhibition organized in Rohini, Delhi.

Chairperson of Janchetna & known writer Ms. Katyayni has said that the mission of Janchetna & Rahul Foundation to provide progressive, pro-people and revolutionary literature at the door steps of common man can not be stopped by this type of vandalism. She said that these types of activities show the peevishness of communal & fascist powers. This mission will now be further speeded up. She appealed to all the pro people writers, Journalists, publishers, social activists & people’s organizations to condemn these cowardly attacks on Janchetna.
